Emotional Coaching
When I was a kid, I thought I was cursed. I was male, grew up in a military family, and was chock full of emotions.

Not having the perspective to appreciate this ironic twist of fate, I spent the better part of my first 30 years trying to distance myself from my feelings. Especially those that were uncomfortable.

It wasn't until the cow dung hit the proverbial fan blade in the late 1980's that the light bulb went on. Emotions, regardless of whether they felt good, bad, or ugly, were integral to my being - and essential for my growth. The challenge was to learn how to listen to them, learn from them, and love because of them.

It's the ultimate challenge.

These days, nowhere do people feel more out of control in their lives than with managing their emotions. Boatloads of fear, shame, guilt, hurt, jealousy, anxiety, insecurity, anger, hate, stress, greed, lust, disappointment, blame, and resentment run rampant - just beneath the surface of our psyche. At home, in relationships, at work, and in business.

I call it emotional pollution.

Misunderstood, misdirected, and mismanaged, these festering feelings have become a lightning rod for dysfunction in our culture. Some of the signs include:

  • Depression
  • Burnout
  • Addiction
  • Blaming and shaming
  • Entitlement
  • Grandiosity
  • Enabling
  • Denial
  • Inflexibility
  • Rage
  • Isolation

In the big picture, however, emotions are meant to contribute towards something much, much grander in life. Instead of a lightning rod for dysfunction, they are intended to be a lightning rod for illumination. A conduit for communication, connection, creativity, passion, purpose, flow, love, and life.
